Machines and Features Lists Last Revised: December 18, 2000

West·Bond's numbering system provides a shorthand method to define a selection from our product offerings. It is useful, particularly for machines and features, to fully specify one of many possible combinations. From this definition, our production control database can create all Bills of Material and control all withdrawals from and reorders to parts inventory.

The numbering system consists of three main parts:

  • Model Numbers -- Identify machine functions by a scheme in which each digit in turn has an assigned meaning. These digits are arranged in a basic four-unit grouping, but can be combined in other groupings to define convertible machines that have more than one possible function.
  • Model Series Letters -- Separate machines into different mechanism designs or principles of operation. Some of these differences were occasioned over the years by new and improved designs.
  • Feature Numbers -- Specify variations of or additions to standard machines. These numbers are appended to the grouping after the Series Letters by a dash, and more than one may be appended. When Features are considered separately, the dash is retained preceding the number.

To define a special machine customized for one customer, a unique product number is created by appending to the model number and letter their West·Bond customer identification number. That machine is then fully defined in the database and can be ordered and produced as any other.

There are examples of some typical product numbers at the end of this topic.
